Jean Hansen

Jean Hansen, FIIDA, LEED Fellow, WELL AP, CID, EDAC, AAHID is HDR’s Sustainable Principal for the firm globally. She is based in San Francisco with 40 years of experience in interior design, medical planning and sustainable design. Ms. Hansen is responsible for advancing HDR's sustainability initiatives internally, and in project and research work for healthcare and institutional environments.

Jean was awarded an HDR Fellowship for 2018-2019 for sustainable materials research. An early adopter of sustainable design, with a depth of experience in deep green materials research, has allowed her to make lasting contributions on projects and in the building industry. She served on Kaiser Permanente’s (KP) Green Building Committee for 10 years, led sustainable textile research for KP; and co-authored the “Future of Fabric” white paper. Jean continues to contribute to global sustainable design standards development, including her position as a core committee member of the USGBC’s LEED Health Care rating system, BIFMA’s Sustainable Furniture Standards, and the Health Product Declaration (HPD). She’s a Board Member of the HPD Collaborative (HPDC), serves on AIA’s Materials Knowledge Working Group and C2C, HAMP and WELL’s Advisory Committees. She’s led sustainable education and research for many clients and worked on 40+ LEED and sustainably focused projects.
